ERROR
Microsoft Word - This file is in use by another application or user. (C:\Documents and Settings\...\Normal.dot)
CAUSE
This is caused by Outlook 2003 or earlier using Microsoft word as its default mail editor or you have a word document open. The file that Outlook and Microsoft word uses in WINWORD.exe which doesn’t liked to be shared between certain applications. In Office / Outlook 2007 you cannot change the editor in Outlook to be anything other than Word.
RESOLUTION
Temporary resolution is to access the Task Manager, go to processes and end process on the WINWORD.exe file
OR
Permanent resolution is to configure Outlook to use its own editor rather than Microsoft word. To do this open Outlook and go to Tools, Options, Mail Format and deselect the box next to Use Microsoft Word to edit email messages.
